HSAwareness Collects Over 100 Children’s Books for Chicago Public School
March 17, 2015

In honor of Read Across America Day, a nationwide reading celebration that takes place on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, the HSAwareness team worked to support literacy in Chicago Public Schools by collecting children’s books for the library of Gillespie Technology Magnet School in the Roseland neighborhood of Chicago.

Through monetary and book donations, HSA employees were able to provide over 100 new or gently-used hardcover books to fill the holes in shelves in the Gillespie Tech library. Additional soft cover books that were donated will be sent home with students, so that they can start their own libraries.

On Read Across America Day on March 2nd, HSAwareness team members attended one of the kindergarten classes lead by librarian, Mr. Lawrence Balark. After Mr. Balark animatedly read Oh the Places You’ll Go, in honor of Dr. Seuss, the children excitedly looked through the new additions to their library during independent reading time.

The HSAwareness team would like to sincerely thank everyone who donated to our February book drive, and we are looking forward to working with you on our next social outreach initiative.
